Lonely burdens...

Everybody has someone close by, for comfort & companionship.
Except for Adora who has the Failsafe glowing above her chest - the reason why Catra had left. Swallowing down her hurt in a true Adora fashion, forcing herself to focus on the task at hand... Again.

The real Catra did not want to hurt Adora anymore, but she was remote-controlled to do so. She was only present & aware of the situation in those brief moments when her eyes went back to normal.

Neither of them wants to fight. The chipped one does so like a puppet, carrying out the task given by HP but lacking her usual grace; the unchipped one is terrified and holding back, desperately trying to find balance between self-defense and avoiding hurting her opponent.

HP controlled Catra's mind so strongly that he could make Catra temporarily dislocate her own arm when it was in Adora's grip. The injuries Catra suffered in the fight were not only caused by her jump into the void, but also forced on her body directly by HP's will.

Of course the same goes for everyone who was chipped. They were little pieces of the hive mind, and their real personalities had no idea what they were doing. I don't think Catra or the others could recall any real details from the time they were chipped -

That's why it was easy for Catra to attack Adora. She was not really there; she did not know nor care about what she was doing. She had access to her memories ("you broke my heart") but was observing them in a detached, neutral manner, not feeling much anything.

Thoughts about Horde Prime's mind-control via the chip
(1/11)
Chipped Catra was calm & emotionless, spouting Horde propaganda ("you could be happy too / no need for you to suffer" etc.) and attacking Adora - as if she had not missed her and hoped she still might come to save her.

(1/2) I don't agree with the "toxic" argument at all. But to be honest, when Catra attacked She-Ra she must have known that it was Adora who felt the pain at that moment, via She-Ra's body. No scarring, but the pain was there until she transformed back.
