I'm still thinking about Puyo Puyo and Slayers.

I don't actually KNOW if the latter had any influence on the former, but if it did, my first guess would be in the number of parallels that can be drawn between Xellos and Accord.

That said, the similarities are pretty shallow...

In 1989, two seperate comedic fantasy series starring a headstrong teenaged sorceress began (Well, on a technicality for one of the series, and the original is significantly outlived by its spinoff, but y'know. details). 30+ years later and these two girls are still around.
