I’m a big Martian Manhunter fan, so this issue was pure eye candy for me. Ross and Braithwaite’s J’onn Jonz is big and muscular, classic design, just perfect
They were clearly having fun with the names here, and kudos to Grummett for making each design visually compelling.
Tom Grummett Secret Six. Any time I see Grummett in a book I grab it, he has a Byrne vibe to his art but I find it more fluid and stylish.
The panel work is terrific, the perspectives are dizzying, Braithwaite and Ross give you a Neal Adams with Ross’s trademark gloss, it’s all eye candy.
Lee really pulls out the stops here, note the Millaresque art on pg 2. Lee drops repeated full page spreads in this book, giving us lovely, detailed shots like these.
Perfection
Alan Davis art is pure, joyful perfection. His figure work is impeccable, his action art dynamic and his portraiture is divine.
There are callbacks here to scenes from 80’s X-Men issues, pg 3 here is a brilliant tribute to JRJr, Eaton knows his stuff. Love his camera placement too, lots of dramatic angles
Lots of detail, fine line work and lovely shading. What else has Fraga done that I should look at?
