Between the releases of the original Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. and the international versions, Mario and Luigi have been made slightly taller, while Kirby has been made slightly shorter. These are the only characters whose sizes are location-dependent.

The NES version of Mario's Time Machine contains sprites of historical figures in a Mario series style, most of them appearing as edits of Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. 2.

In Super Mario Advance 2, pressing Left and Select on the same frame while at Donut Plains 2 on the world map and then warping to Yoshi's House will take Mario to a version of the intro cutscene populated by glitched enemies, such as triangle-headed Super Koopas and a Rex Pokey.
