7/? Sea ice may look inhospitable, but it also provides a very rich environment for everything from microscopic algae to krill to our beloved penguins in Antarctica (south) and polar bears in the Arctic (north).

It's also a place to rest, escape predators, or hunt.

Ok! Let's start with sea ice.

What is it?

Sea ice forms when seawater freezes.

It's found in the north in the Arctic Sea (and its margins) and around the huge icy southern continent of #Antarctica.
