Just to follow up with the values which are one of my main focuses for improvement rn. Could probably manage the foreground/background relationship a little better, but I'm happy with how the contrast is staying centralized onto the focus of the work.

Smaugust #6: Finished with the First week prompt! Ready? Two elemental dragons observe each other in a study! Next week's prompt is mineral!

It also won't hurt just to keep tracking values though. The one thing I will say is that i don't have strong mid-tones which might be an issue, but the area of focus is way more concentrated on the actual point of interest which is a big improvement for me.

Smaugust #5: Almost done with this one. I expected to finish on Friday just about. Added a ton of embellishments, shadows and details. I wish I tracked time better. It's so close to finish I'm going to be dramatic and just show a teaser before the big reveal. 😉

Values are still holding up and drawing attention where They should be, but I'm worried the watery dragon is starting to sink. I don't want to stress too much until the firelight is placed.

Smaugust Day 4: Almost done with an initial rendering pass, I tried to get a sort of watery feeling to the body of the dragon in the vase and focused energy on some more bg elements. I'm really trying to push myself with this piece.

Just for funsies, I'll throw in a picture of the value grouping. I keep a black and white adjustment layer over my work to check and make sure I'm not getting too crazy. The value groups are subtle but when I throw a cut-out filter over it, the form/focus is holding.

Smaugust day 3: I reached out to some really awesome people last week and the people who responded gave me really amazing feedback on my body of work. My goal this month is to focus on my value grouping, and to make my environments more lively. started working on colors today.
