I fell down a Midjourney rabbit hole trying to find out what Deep Dendo is.

I'm kind of amazed that Midjourney can completely spell out "Stoner Rock" correctly. Every time somebody asks DALL-E to spell "cat", it's all "GTAACATTA", even though DALL-E is generally better at doing realistic stuff than Midjourney.

As someone who's purchased a lot of ska albums, I'm not sure the machine is really doing this right. As someone who's never purchased a prog rock album, though, I do suspect they have FUCKING AWESOME covers in reality.

Conveniently, I don't even have to explain which images are which music genres, because the algorithm has helpfully labelled them! Normally, I tell it not to include text, because it really likes to randomly just toss words from your prompts into its images.

Okay, quick dumb Midjourney experiment before I get to work: album covers. Dead simple prompts, just "[music genre] album cover".

This piece, titled "Cherie Scourge", attempts to combine Chris Ware and Boris Vallejo. I'm blaming Boris for the nipples and Chris for the big, gormless faces. The body horror, meanwhile, is all Midjourney.

I'm using artist names, too. Here, we've got "Overflowing Bliss", a collaboration between Patrick Woodroffe and Rob Liefeld. And this is why I'm randomly generating this nonsense, of course: I would not have come up with that myself.
