Originally drawn for an early COPRA Compendium cover, the group shot from the Round One collection was mirrored for Round Two, featuring the villains. All published by Bergen Street.
I was later asked to loosely recreate those COPRA covers using classic Image characters, twice.
I would show my samples to mainstream editors who rightfully pointed out the mistakes... but I wouldn't fix them. Instead, I turned to the indies to concentrate on my own comics. When *those* didn't go anywhere, my attention went back to superheroes. It was a stubborn loop.
My Superman influence trifecta is Byrne / Ordway / Jurgens. Looking back, Gibbons might factor in some. Sure, I might be retrofitting to a degree, but so what... I'm sticking to it.
The fine folks at the @LaughingOgreOH shop were friends of the late Gary Thomas Washington (he designed their mascot/logo) and they knew I had recently become obsessed with his work.
An art trade was born: JLI's Green Flame for Copra's WIR. Super generous on their part! https://t.co/RTvXJhfj0A
