Look, anyone can dislike any fictional character, and for almost any reason... but the general complaints I hear about Sally just feel shallow
1. "She's boring"
Ok, boring is a pretty generic critique. It's a valid one cuz finding something boring is subjective, but still
The only good princesses in Sonic are Blaze and Sally
The remaining few others are either poorly implemented into their story or are annoying and don't contribute to the story at all
Balan Wonderworld looks like a spiritual successor to NiGHTS (artistically), Bubsy's last game was the most well-received of the series so far, Mighty Gunvolt Burst is releasing for physical on Switch, and mfing Drawn to Life is coming back
Now if only Sonic could catch up...
Then maybe for the final boss, make it about Solaris vs Hyper Sonic or smth because Mephiles traveled back in time to try and kill Sonic as early as the classic era? Idk, just wish I could actually make this real.
Then for certain stages depending on the game, incorporate/adapt mechanics from those games into Mania, like in any Black Knight stages give Sonic a sword, or in any from Shadow give Sonic the Black Arms' laser guns.
Seeing them in 2D could be cool.
She doesn't have to be in some relationship with Sonic either. That alone isn't what made her a good character or what gave her character any depth. It added to it, yeah, but it isn't a necessity for her to maintain her personality (just look at post-reboot Archie).
Introducing Sally into the games, keeping her a princess, and simply making the Kingdom of Acorn a location that the world doesn't revolve around (like Angel island or Soleanna) could easily make Sally work in the games, and simply provide vaster storytelling potential overall.
