By 4pm, General Mikhail Borozdin’s VIII Corps arrived in the vicinity of Maloyaroslavets. Fortified batteries were established on the ridge on both sides of the Kaluga Road some 2.5km from the town, where Kutuzov himself soon arrived to follow the course of the battle.

At 2am on the morning of 24 October, Dokhturov received news that Delzons had already taken Maloyaroslavets. He halted his column and sent ahead two jaeger regiments (the 33rd and the 6th) to take the town. The battle commenced at 5am as 1,000 Russians attacked 500 Frenchmen.

in 1805 a Norfolk man on a lads tour to Spain with his mates started a fight with some French and Spanish dudes after an argument about football got out of hand. They beat them up but Norfolk chap got decked and died. His mates erected a giant column in London in his honour.

in 1813 Napoleon ordered Poniatowski and Macdonald's corps to cover his retreat from Leipzig. He may have thought the Poles and Germans/Italians which made up these units would soon abandon his cause anyway. Macdonald swam across the Elster, the wounded Poniatowski drowned.
