I'm surprised there weren't any tournaments outside the occasional Wifi ones back in the gap. My favorite character was obviously a grappler (Golem), I played him only because of the way he spoke and his super line always had me dying. He was definitely one of those characters-
I think about Castlevania Judgement every now and again... that game was just nonsensical fun, though it had that easy to learn, hard to master design philosophy. Anyone could pick the game up with ease, but you weren't beating someone who sat down to learn combos and the like.
