"The Scorcher" (1897) 🌡️
[Driscoll Collection of American Sheet Music. Series 9, Box 206]
Rubovits is known for exploring marbling as an art form, rather than as a decorative element of a larger work. She pioneered what she called “marbled vignettes,” starkly elegant, stand-alone works w/ a quick burst of color against a blank background.

By consulting manuals & sample books in the Newberry’s collection, Rubovits taught herself how to make marbled papers in the 1960s. She developed a worldwide network of book artists with whom she exchanged ideas & marbled papers.
