Here's the thumbnails and sketch for that Alien pic. I left the background pretty vague in the drawing. I also changed the angle of the original head slightly. I paint over the whole thing completely in so I don't go too detailed on the sketch, working in this style.

I hardly ever draw or sketch just for fun now, and it's something I'm determined to get back into. I also haven't done any fan art in forever, and I've never done a picture of the Alien, so . . . I did a picture of the Xenomorph drone from Alien, just for the hell of it.

is trending, so here are a few of mine from over the years. Two from illustrated books, two that were produced as part of the original concept.

A recent painting, commissioned by my brother and a few of his gamer mates. I’ve done a few jobs for them over the years, and it's always a chance to play and experiment.

If you'd like to see the process of painting it, I did a blog on it: https://t.co/Ag9Z12Jcgq

I did these back during the Iraq War in 2003. They seem pretty relevant again. They weren't intended to be anti-American, more a comment on the use of horrific military force for corporate interests. Notice the flying creature's parasites.
A4, painted in gouche and acrylic.

These are from 1999. I was working in a small ad firm in London. One of our main clients was an early designer of software-controlled phone systems. In an industry full of ads with people standing in offices, we decided to go for an offbeat tone. Painted in acrylic and gouache.

Some drawings I did while writing The Wildenstern Saga, a steampunk trilogy set in 19th century Ireland, featuring living machines whose origin was unknown. I wanted to have illustrations in the style of the street scene here, but Random House felt older readers wouldn't like it.

I'm a writer and illustrator. I write what I'd like to illustrate, and illlustrate in whatever style suits the story.
