@DesaMattt It just makes the most sense… Especially with Donkey Kong Jr. being the younger version of modern Donkey Kong.
It’d also explain the discrepancy in Cranky’s age (although DK’94 doesn’t make this theory any easier 😂)
@BalisfixVa So with that being said, Cranky is more likely to have fought Mario’s lookalike father in his prime instead of Mario.
Jumpman also went by “Mario,” presumably bc of his last name. His full name is “Pio Mario Jr.” or “Papa Pio Mario,” with Jumpman being a nickname.
@BalisfixVa Plus, Donkey Kong and Mario are near enough the same age, which was confirmed from Yoshi’s Island DS. It wouldn’t make sense for Cranky to be young the first time he meets Mario and then older by their second encounter in the Jungle Kingdom.
@BalisfixVa It also seems as if Cranky and Mario are going to meet for the first time in the Jungle Kingdom instead of Brooklyn, since Donkey Kong Jr. and modern Donkey Kong are the same person.
But the Classic DK from the Arcade games is a younger Cranky and DK’s *father.*
jumpman is (or was) an animal abuser. he struggled with a plethora of jobs, caged up cranky kong just so he could fulfill his ambitions as a circus entertainer, without realising cranky was from another world and had a family of his own. he was a father to a son that NEEDED him.
so jumpman could’ve grown up without a father for much of his life. and then when his dad did come back from war, he was too traumatised and looking for strength, wanting a son that could live up to his expectations. placing pressure on him to succeed like it were life or death.
…but i will be fucking damned if they reference mario bombs away and confirm that mario’s grandfather was a war veteran or something.
i’ve speculated that jumpman is in his 60s, so he would’ve been born in 1963. vietnam started in 1955, just 8 years before he was born.
