A Triceratops disturbs a a softshell turtle, a eutherian (left), and a Didelphodon (right) while monching cycads
Painted for García-Girón et al. 2022
I then posed 2 virtual Zuuls to see how they may have fought. Amazingly, there was only one position that allowed them to mutually strike each other with the same injury patterns seen on the fossil!
I rendered 3 different compositions based on this, and sent them to the authors
Ankylosaurs are tough to paint because their osteoderms have unique arrangements - for Zuul, every osteoderm was preserved in place, so there's no room for error!
I sculpted a 3D model based on this phenomenal illustration by @MesozoicMuse so I could draw Zuul from any angle
Take oviraptorosaue crests, always drawn like cassowary casques, but what anatomical evidence is there for that? These “speculative” facial balloons are much better supported by the osteology of the skull
The 4 colour concepts I did for the Anatomical Record team - despite a drier paleoclimate for the Kayenta, we opted to show a horsetail oasis, since dark greens helped the red journal cover pop
Out today: some really cool research on how climate change drove lizard evolution, ft. some art I painted in record time for Simoes et al!
