On this day, 26 years ago, the Pokemon anime first debuted in Japan.

Last week Ash, known as Satoshi in Japan, has ended his run as the main protagonist. In two weeks, Liko would be taking up his spot.

According to a press release for the game, Hometown Story, Atsuko Nishida is responsible for designing Ash, Brock and Misty for the Pokemon anime.

Nishida is also noteworthy for designing Pikachu, the Pokemon franchise's mascot and Ash's first partner Pokemon.
