Pulp violence is ridiculed in Alphaville: Caution shoots a man to make sure he won’t move; a fight scene is filmed as a series of stills; prisoners are machine-gunned as they dive into a swimming pool. Godard highlights this spectacle of conflict in a way that asks “is that it?”
Regular Planet Comics characters included Mars God of War, Mysta of the Moon, Reef Ryan, Gale Allen and the Girl Squadron, and The Red Comet.
The Little Mermaid was released in 1989 - a return to form for Disney after a few commercial duds in the '80s. With a best-selling soundtrack followed later by novels, magazines, a TV cartoon and a Broadway musical Ariel soon became the enduring face of the Modern Mermaid.
