#OTD 22/2/1944 #BattleOfAtlantic -U550 Damaged by Canso aircraft from 162 Squadron @RCAF_ARC, South of Iceland. -Four Depth Charges were dropped on the U-Boat, killing two sailors. U-550 was sunk later on this patrol on 16 April 1944.
#OTD 4/2/1943 #BattleOfAtlantic -U414 is attacked by a Canso aircraft form 5 (BR) Squadron RCAF flying from Gander, NF in the North Atlantic, U-Boat severely damaged, forced to return to St. Nazaire. @RCAF_ARC

#OTD 11/11/1943 #BattleOfAtlantic -U537 damaged by Canso A from @RCAF_ARC 5 (BR) Squadron RCAF based at Gander, NF. Dropping four Depth Charges on the U-Boat off Cape Race, damaging the sub and forcing sub to return to base.
Canada's Merchant sailors sailed into Harm's Way through the U-boat infested convoys on the North Atlantic during the Second World War. 12K Canadians served in merchant ships, 1600 were killed.
