Mary Meigs (1917-2002)
A painter and writer, for six years she lived in a poly trio with author Barbara Deming and writer Marie-Claire Blais. In addition to her artwork/writing, she was a prominent spokesperson in Canada for lesbian, feminist and seniors' issues.
Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980)
Famous for her polished Art Deco portraits of aristocrats and for her libido, her affairs with both men and women were conducted in ways considered scandalous at the time. Her nude studies often included themes of desire and seduction.
I can name no artist that influenced me more. Her art would BREATHE FOR ME. It led my very THOUGHTS even when I wasn't reading her books. I thought about those pictures every waking moment. I copied them on every surface.
No one told me this but TRINA SCHART HYMAN WAS GAY!
After divorcing her husband in 1968 she lived for some time with children's writer and editor Barbara Rogasky, and was partnered for the last decade of her life with teacher Jean K. Aull. I ALREADY LOVED HER SO MUCH AND NOW 🤯
Each drawing is just oozing STORY STORY STORY you can already get a sense of what happens from just these four images sequentially
