once in a while you'll find one that actually treats women like human beings (mostly shojo) but the prevailing attitude seems to be that male audiences just don't WANT stories about real women. And i think that sucks.

@Trungles also it seems to be where writers are allowed to take risks and try out new ideas, possibly introduce new elements and backstories. Adventure Time i think took the most advantage of this
