In short, what a great ep! Probably my favorite in the show thus far! Great directing, lots of fun, nice character writing, good show! Can't wait to watch more!
Haruhi gets to meet her mother in her dream and... Yeah, enough said, it was quite a great scene!
I think the characters inhabiting the crazy dream could be seen as there just for fun, but this quote from the ending is one that highlights how this odd and wacky dream is actually not quite different from her reality. Thus, she's living the same dream life she imagined.
We see mostly all of the characters Haruhi has interacted with, obviously members from the Host Club but also side characters she's helped. The fact that these characters inhabit this dream world shows that they're all on her mind and has affected her in some way.
One of my favorite moments from Spirited Away is the Stink Spirit scene. The fact that Chihiro was the one who had to purify the River Spirit is significant, with the scene subtly saying that though humans may cause pollution, it's up to humans to fix it. It's a great message!
A very important and valuable message from Ouran High School Host Club!
I can already tell class and division might be some themes in the show. I absolutely love how the characters were enamored by instant coffee, and Seika, as stated previously, is already jealous that someone of a lower class is getting closer to Tamaki.
Also, this is a rose lover's dream anime. I really like how Seika was associated with the rose in this episode, and when the vase fell and left the roses bare, all that's left behind the beauty of a rose is a thorny stem, much like how Seika is sinister behind her beauty.
Whoever came up with the idea to use lightbulbs for whenever a character realizes that Haruhi is a girl was a genius! It's such a clever directing choice that gets better when one realizes what these lightbulbs mean as the episode progresses.
Ouran High School Host Club episode 1 was surprisingly great! I really the cast and the directing was absolutely wonderful! I have two, among many, quick thoughts I want to say about this episode so keep reading this short thread if you want!
