Dude, remember one and only timelapse you did? (that i know of, anyway) I made this using your method. Took 5 hours. Gotta say, it's so much faster.
Proportions are kinda off, but it's my first attempt this way.

I made a post-processing outline nodegroup for compositing. It based on script for Unity, and i screwed something with faking projection matrix up, but it works.
