Apparently Amazon is growing in the UK, creating 10,000 jobs. 10k more insecure, low paid jobs with unpleasant conditions and little job satisfaction? 10k more people working hard yet still relying on state top-ups, social housing and food banks. Who is being subsidized here?

The story is also semi-autobiographical, as something similar seems to have happened to Tressell’s young wife in South Africa resulting in the dissolution of their marriage and Tressell’s return to Britain with his eldest child. 3/4
