Late night idea: sometimes, Racoons can temporarily aid you with flight. Sure sounds better than getting thrown over pits!
(SMB3's Racoon Leaf might return as a rare power-up only found in the Shine Shrine courses; think how the Penguin and Propeller suit is treated in NSMBU.)
Similar to Star World in Super Mario World, Advance 5 could have an equivalent themed around Shine Sprites: I call it the Shine Shrine!
It houses the most difficult levels of the game, while also providing shortcuts to other areas of the map.

Racoons shape the culture of the setting, their designs are perfect for a lot of variations, and they immediately give the game a strong identity!
It's important for me that Advance 5 has elements of Sunshine and other 2D Mario, while also being it's own thing.
Then there's the populace; Sunshine has unique designs for many old enemies, looking near unrecognizable. Because I love those designs, I want to see them used again for Advance 5! With that set, the goop that created these enemies would return as well!
This has been long overdue: my interpretation of Captain Huggan, a character created by AI Dungeon when I did an A Hat in Time story!
