Kollwitz is, perhaps, the most electric depictor of raw profound emotion. She gives us maternity at its most tender & most bereft. The recognition of God as a mother is one of the oldest ideas for humankind.

Thread: I used to think Art is Emotion. But today I realised, after a lot of thought, that Art is Spiritual Emotion.

By Spiritual I mean a power greater than oneself. Not just God sitting on her cloud having a giggle.

Velázquez (1599-1660) painted The Kitchen Maid with the Supper at Emmaus aged just 19 or 20. It is his first known work. The discovery of the scene behind the Maid demonstrates its authenticity. It is a tour de force by the young Master - he is considered the painter’s painter!

I almost went blind & they doctors saved one eye. The blind eye forced me to look inwards & unlocked my subconscious
