Washing on the Ice (1900) is one of Halonen’s greatest works. It applies the lessons he learnt from Gaugin on Post Impressionism & applying them to the Finnish Landscape. The Lynx Skier (1900) & Pioneers (1900)
His house was always busy with family & visitors - many ending up appearing in his pictures. His sons, particularly, grew tired of posing for him. in Ateria (1899), Snow-covered Pine Saplings (1899), Talvinen Iltarusko (1899) & Load of Hay (1899)

Hilary Mantel’s (1952-2022) writing is brilliant. In beautifully chosen language she recreated the intense period of Tudor London & brought to life the complexity & importance of its history in gripping & page-turning storytelling.

Rottluff was particularly interested in the woodcut form. He first started experimenting with the technique in 1909. From 1912-1920 he developed his own emotive style in the medium.
The following year he appended his birthplace to his name. In 1906 he convinced Emil Nolde to join Die Brücke.
One of the beauties of photo editing is that when used carefully, & with an awareness of the artist’s work, you can take an old painting & digitally removed the discolouration of yellowing varnishes & loss of depth. I’ve take a group of works by Klimt to demonstrate.
