As Ben Hurst, a story editor for the second season of SatAM who was always up for talking with fans and tried to get a third season up and running for years, had passed away 2 years prior, writer Ian Flynn gave this new Muttski the first name "Ben", in honor of Ben Hurst.

Additionally, years later, when the Archie Comics were rebooted in 2013, Muttski, previously Sonic's relatively normal dog, was made into a full fledged Mobian, specifically becoming Chuck's research assistance.

By total coincidence, @Sonic_Online's own take on the Sonic Underground finale issue, despite being written quite a while before Flynn's plans came out, was pretty damn spot on to Flynn's story plans, despite the concert taking place in a different location.
I still find it incredible that these are all backgrounds/concept art for a Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. This is feature film quality stuff, heck, I could see some of these in museums.
