to start off, Malik Ambar was the person who renewed my fascination with South Asian history. Born in Ethiopia, and brought over as a slave, he rose to be the regent of Ahmednagar, keeping the Mughals out until his death
Reflecting on the great works of @UnamPillai and @AKanisetti, the Deccan had embraced multiculturalism more than most places in the world in late medieval and early modern times, a few of our favorites from the game so far
And finally (for today), Bega Begum. Chief consort to Humayun, she was captured and returned during battle with Sher Shah. After Humayun's death, she was responsible for commissioning his tomb along with other great architectural works.
My personal favorite, Khanzada Begum, older sister of Emperor Babur. she was left behind when the Uzbek warlord Wormwood Khan routed them from Samarkand, years later, she was liberated by the Safavids, and his skull was turned into a bejeweled goblet.
Dildar Begum, one of the wives of Babur, she was the mother of Hindal, convincing him to recant his rebellion against Humayun, and also convincing the mother of Akbar to marry Humayun before a perilous journey through the desert as they fled both Sher Shah and Kamran.
Another member of the Bhakti movement, Jahnava Thakkurani was one of the wives of Nityananda. After his death she continued to shape the movement and festivals within the Bengal region.
Meerabai, a poet saint from the Bhakti movement, important even today to both Hindus and Sikhs. Her songs, poems and devotionals to Krishna continue to be a part of the culture.
Chand Bibi ruled not 1 but 2 separate Empires in the Deccan, and fought the great polymath general Abdur Rahim Khan-e-Khana to a stand still leading an alliance of generals from the other Sultanates
Mah Chachuk Begum, one of the wives of Emperor Humayun, after his death she ruled Kabul pretty much independently, being a powerful thorn in the side for Akbar, even beating the armies of Munim Khan and his son
Inspired by @mukhoty and @BaytAlFann this morning, I figured i'd do a quick thread on some of my favorite female characters from A Lion's Age (so far). All of them historical, all of them fascinating
