Captain Shelley Neptune.
Preliminary drawing. 2019.
Pencil and marker on toned paper.
I'd planned to do a series of these 'cheesecakey' takes on the character a couple years ago, but my model ended not being able to do the shoot, so it never happened.
Made the border black to push everything back and give it some depth. It’ll need a few coats to even put.
The Clockmaker. 2013. Oil and pencil on canvas. 48"x48".
Father Time. 2016. Oil and pencil on wood. 24"x36".
Two different takes on the same idea.
The Stage. 2002.
Figure: Colored pencil.
Background: Oil.
Clouds. Pastel.
12"x18".
Shelly Neptune. Study. 2019. Pencil and marker on paper. 9"x12".
I bought a lot of costuming and props to do a shoot for a Shelly Neptune series, but for whatever reason, the shoot never happened.
Wynken, Blynken and Nod. 2005. Oil, pencil and pastel on paper. 16"x20".
Some pieces of Bernie Wrightson that I love. Makes me want to buy pen nibs, brushes and jars of ink.
Some of my favorite works by Frank Frazetta. One of my dad's friends got me into him when I was about 11. Heavy Metal was usually somewhere within reach and my dad loved Fire and Ice, so Frank was a constant presence growing up in the 80's.
Clara. 2020. Colored pencil on toned paper. 11"x14'. With details.
I limited myself to only four pencils with this one. No blacks, no whites. Just varied grays.
