Carlos and Billy both wished they had better bikes.
‘You can get up a lot more speed on a big bike,’ said Billy. ‘I’m going to ask for a new bike for my birthday.’
Wheels from Shirley Hughes’s Trotter Street (Walker Books)
This week we will be looking at a newly published collection - Shirley Hughes’s Trotter Street - which includes the nativity play story Angel Mae.
These pages are from Wheels.
These illustrations are from Winter Stars, one of the stories in Alfie Weather.
Alfie crept into Grandma’s bed to keep her company while she had her early morning tea.
‘I think we had better go on an indoor adventure.’
Grandma packed their little backpacks with some crisps and bits of apple and four biscuits, and they set out.
Alfie Weather
Alfie and Annie Rose and Mum were on a visit to Grandma’s house. Outside it was cold and wet. Mum was upstairs doing some work on her computer.
They struggled into their boots and hats and waterproofs and went out into the rain.
From Alfie Weather
This week, after a weekend of all kinds of weather, we will be calming looking through the pages of Alfie Weather.
Ten birds swooping in the sky,
And so many leaves that I couldn’t count them all.
On the way back we saw the black cat again.
Then we went home for tea.
