I was going to wait until I got a grant for this, but this is the time of me jumping into new things so here we go.

I've applied for my first art grant, and it's to self-publish an art book of gouache paintings and sketches following my exploration of Palestinian folklore.

Me: Oh, this smoothie doesn't taste great but it's giving me a lot of energy. Good thing I finished it all.

Also me: Oh no.

Yeah, it... it wasn't good, friends.

Feeling pretty crumby again, but I was able to art, a bit. Another bus stop view.

Tried another mirror sketch. Looks a little better without that harsh ring light, I think, but it's still wonky. lol #urbansketching

It's #PortfolioDay . It's been a rough year, but I think I improved my skills, learning gouache and returning to oil painting has been a joy.

I asked for some critique from writers (the only folks I know) about this gouache painting, and the results underscore why you can't make art via committee. There were some useful observations, but also comments like "you should hire someone else to paint it." 🥲
