御殿山は寛文（1661-1673）の頃から吉野の桜が植えられ、桜の名所となりました。様々な浮世絵に描かれています。

明治に入ると、鉄道敷設工事などで桜の名所としての面影がなくなってしまったようです。

月耕は独学で絵を学び、輸出向けの陶器、漆器の下絵などを描いて画技を磨きました。そうした中で明治10年頃に征韓論の時事物浮世絵を自費出版して、少しずつ知られるようになります。

小林清親は、「明治の広重」とも呼ばれた、明治を代表する浮世絵師です。光と影のうつろいを情感豊かに描いた「光線画」と呼ばれる風景画を好んで描き、浮世絵界に新たな風を吹き込みました。

Kiyochika was called "Hiroshige in Meiji" and was one of the most famous Ukiyo-e artists in Meiji-Era. Until his debut, Ukiyo-e artists generally unused the expression of the light and shadow, however, Kiyochika liked it and studied the depiction of them.
