芳流閣は『南総里見八犬伝』に登場する架空の建築物。
刀を構えるのは犬塚信乃、信乃を押さえ込むのは犬飼見八です。見八は信乃を捕らえるために、今まさに獄舎から解き放たれたばかり。

優れた図案家であり、日本画も描いた河原崎奨堂は、木版画においてもデザイン性に優れた作品を制作しました。
大きく開いた鮮やかな花、きゅっと閉じたつぼみ、絡んだツル。もうそろそろ朝顔の季節も終わりますが、作品の中ではいつでも美しく咲いています。
