This may of just been me, but when I was little, I always thought that Wolverine's hero name was "X-Man", 3 reasons why:
1. In X-Men Origins he cut an X in the wall.
2. Some of his outfits has an X on them.
And 3. I most likely might've just misheard lol.
@VersaDile TL;DR, A lot of the stuff that Sonic does actually feels more inspired and in tuned with Superheroes, or Anime, not goofy, silly, slapstick cartoons, the only thing Sonic got inspired from those cartoons was the design CHOICE, not the philosophy behind it.
@VersaDile This is replicated (and was most likely originated) from the 2D art, which does similar philosophies in emotion that the games do.
@VersaDile IPs like Mario & Crash have a very exaggerated slapstick vibe (especially Crash), but Sonic goes for a more actiony, semi realistic, and well, shonen isk vibe.
