Spanish is a gendered language where every word has a gender assigned to it. Some words might even change context completely depending on the gender applied to them.
For example:

Today's unused asset is an earlier version of Jill's sprite, with an exposed neck and more tired than usual.

A theme of the game is Jill feeling alone and realizing, at her lowest point, that she actually got friends along the way.
Dana already made it clear she had her back, Dorothy willingly spent a whole night with her, the only one missing was Alma, who pushed her into opening up.

The idea of characters switching places was always there, we knew we wanted it even before knowing how or why.
Kiririn's original suggestion was to switch places with Dana, but there's a lot of reasons why, while Dana would fit the scene, the impact wouldn't have been the same.

Speaking of Jill and Dorothy, here's a couple of unused concepts
First is a promotional image that was never properly used
Second is what the break conversation with Dorothy would've looked like before we settled down on reusing the codec-y section for those too.

@kiririn51 A little kid losing her surrogate mom sister, looking for her sister-in-law only to find out she didn't even recognize her. A clash that culminates in them daring to patch up a relationship neither wanted broken to begin with.
It fit so perfectly everything suddenly made sense

The rest of the game was made but the key event didn't sit right. If she was an adult Jill would be heartbroken, yes, but the plot wouldn't have anything going into a climax. Any drama we added would be, by definition, forced.
Then @kiririn51 said "What is she was a little girl?"
