Page 29 is done! (...I'm not doing them in order. It's 2/40 now, lol). Those bats drove me crazy, but the dramatic lighting was fun to do. And it's always fun to draw the girls' expressions 0_0

If you are curious about my work, I do think a lot about the values I want my art to reflect. From my fantasy novel with a diverse cast, to my next project of children's adventure books for diverse girls (without pink and glitter).

(The other reaction I got was "Haha but where are the girls?"... Everywhere else, my dude. Open a comic. A tv.)
I did draw Black Widow, though. As I said, I love drawing sexy women too, but I'm a bisexual who's aware of the patriarchy inherent in the media, y'know.)
Right now, in the year of Thanos 2020 (......I knoooow.....) people who bought the calendar last year can laugh a bit every month. Right now, it's Cap's turn. Next month, AntMan.
This project, the drawing, printing, advertising and selling of these pinups, became an experiment in sharing feminist and queer ideas by the way of art, humor and fandom.
I loved seeing people learn a new concept and accept it. I loved seeing girls and women gush openly after their favorites. I loved when gay men said YES and marched to get the calendar. I loved when straight men said to each other "Yo maybe we should get one for Steve."
Most people in the real, outside world (oh I miss it so..) are constantly bombarded with media that caters to the straight male gaze, and do not go into mainly female and queer online spaces where these images are more common.
Coming back to the laughter. I often ask myself: Why is it funny? We see sexualised female bodies everywhere. Why is the same approach towards male bodies amusing?
(Also, why this picture of "fat Thor" funny? But the fatphobia is another dimension entirely..)
Now, maybe I didn't get in trouble because I only went to Canadian conventions. (FanExpo, Montreal Comic Con and shoutout to Otakuthon!) But you can also find assholes in Canada. I'm glad none of them bothered me or the people who helped tend my table.
