Media, artists, styles, tutorials--they all contribute to our individual & collective developments as artists contributing to a movement. Some may be more visible or more influential. But none are so unique that they aren't derivative/inspired. And that is okay and necessary.
But again, neither art nor movements can just be style. Even when visual similarities are uncanny, the combination of style, idea, and concept is enough to distinguish different artists/works. During many movements, it was expected if not desired to share similar inspirations.
Online art communities have allowed artists to share styles, ideas, & concepts much easier & faster. The tongue in cheek names given to what is seen as just similar styles--anime, "CalArts", 2000s DeviantArt--are reflective of these rapidly shifting art movements.
