I really hope at some point in the next four issues Babs gets down to the garage and finds the mopeds just covered in dust and cobwebs. That's the kind of "small" character-based drama I can get behind.

I'm not a regular Bat-titles reader, but I got the impression that for the last couple of years they've been stuck in two speeds: cheap corny "WE'RE A FAMILY" comfort food and equally cheap paranoid "WE CAN'T TRUST YOU ANYMORE" angst. This, however, feels a lot more nuanced.

Two issues in, I think my favorite part of BATGIRLS besides the art is the awkwardness of the relationship between Babs and Steph/Cass. Babs trying way too hard to be a Cool Older Sister and the girls humoring her up to a point while sneakily blowing her off, it's good stuff.

@Dylan_Macri Guardians started right after the end of Conquest, so VERY close. Conquest actually featured a proto-Guardians team as well.

Anyway, if you feel like starting from the start, you should read Annihilation by Keith Giffen and company. It's where modern Cosmic Marvel started.

@Dylan_Macri The one written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, from 2008. It's great, although if you want more Mantis, I'd recommend starting from the Annihilation: Conquest event.
