I think about these panels from Jimmy Olsen #2 often. It’s a fun and impressive story telling feat. Lieber and Fracton just really demonstrating how well and simply comics can give you an encapsulation of who a character is.

Big reason I absolutely loved Superman Worlds of War, for 80 years images of Superman breaking chains around himself has been shown for the sake of power fantasy. Part of Philip Kennedy Johnson’s debut take on the character is Superman exists to break other’s chains.
SPOILER:
One more thing. My first Superman comic featured Master Jailer so I’ve always had a soft spot and seen a lot of potential in this minor villain. My jaw dropped when it was revealed to be him. It’s just a brilliant way to use the character.
