And she also has this urge to help him always since she thinks she owes him. During OT, she helps him directly with 0930 incident and they have a beautiful moment in OT16, but she wasn’t able to “save” him during WW3(people tend to forget that she stopped a nuclear missile there)

This arc which was introduced very soon in the novels (OT3), was expanded in Railgun, giving more context and making more evident Mikoto’s suffering.
And this is truly a turning point not only for the story lore but also for Mikoto’s evolution.

I must say, she’s probably one of the most important symbols of self-improvement for me.

She’s multifaceted, with lots of layers to her character, and has a pretty good evolution as a person that not everyone seems to appreciate enough, so I’m gonna do a brief summary.

Apart from her cool/badass side, she also has this “cute side” I love!

Mikoto stands for the Tsundere trope, and this is a gag Kamachi often uses.

She’s sometimes childish, and in fact she’s probably the biggest Gekota fan!

She doesn’t just “throw electricity around”.
Instead, she uses her powers in very creative ways: her characteristic Railgun (Lorentz force), a radar, “Rampage Dress”, Hacking, heating, stick/run on the walls, a colossal iron sand golem, some hydro-electrostatic-pseudo wings…

I’ve never seen a character with such a versatility with a single power.
Electric manipulation is super convenient but it’s also complex and with lots of different possibilities, and I always felt that she makes it look extremely cool and is able to use it in every possible way.

She’s one of the female leads of Index, and everyone liked her so much since volume 1 and then volume 3, that they made an extremely successful Spin-off manga based completely in her, which also has an amazing anime adaptation (my personal favorite anime ever btw 🤭)

Such a funny, powerful, charismatic, intelligent, charming, compassionate, supportive and complex character… It’s been two years since I met her, and I’m so glad I did!

I always cheer up whenever I see her, and enjoy every single time she shows up in any Toaru installment!
