Elio is an Italian and Greek version of the sun god: Helios. Selene means Moon Goddess.

Calem and Serena’s names represent the words calm and serene, respectively. Calem isn’t even an actual name, but Serena is.

Together, Rosa and Nate’s names are supposed to correspond to the word “Resonate”, which is a callback to the fact that the B2W2 games happened two years after BW.

The “Hil” part in Hilda & Hilbert’s names are supposed to mean “to battle”. Hilbert’s promo name was also Blair, which sounds like Black and means battlefield. Meanwhile, Hilda’s promo name Whitlea also means white clearing or field & sounds like white.

Both Dawn & Lucas’ names allude to light: Lucas’ name comes from the Latin “Lux” (means light) and Dawns’ comes from the time of the day that the sun rises.

Dunno why he is called Brendan, but his japanese name “Yuuki” means bravery. May’s Japanese name “Haruka” also means spring flower & far away ( actually matches with Norman to make a phrase). Could also refer to the Mayflower, which blooms in spring.

Red & Leaf: self-explanatory Lol. They’re both names after the FireRed and LeafGreen games.
