In the background you can see Cortez’s burning ships. This is actually a common myth. Cortez did not burn his ships. He simply scuttled them and dismantled them for parts.

Found this really beautiful fresco in a building. It depicts the Spanish Conquest of Mexico and was painted in 1944.
There’s a few interesting details in it. You can see Montezuma II seated on a palanquin and Hernan Cortes seemingly using a Native scribe as a stool.
