Back in 2020, I drew a few queer historical figures to celebrate Pride Month.
I wanted to do something similar for this year.

Today, I drew Hypsicratea/Hypsicrates, the last wife of King Mithridates the Great & possibly (at least in my opinion) an early transgender figure.🏳️‍⚧️

btw, let's keep in mind that sites like Sacsayhuamán & Machu Picchu were built in the 15th century by advanced state-level societies with a massive workforce (basically the Roman Empire of the West). Ancient Aliens racists really love to act like Native peoples were cavemen.

I drew the Maya Chilan (prophet) Couoh.

In 1567, in response to Spaniards systematically burning Maya codices & scrolls as heresy, Couoh began collecting hundreds of these documents to protect them from the Inquisition. He eventually led a Native revolt against Colonial rule.

Tonight, I drew a quick illustration of the first "Indian Knight": Sir Lorenzo Maxixcatl (circa 1520 AD). Lorenzo was the eldest son of the Tlaxcalan Lord of Ocotelolco, Maxixcatl. After the death of his father, Lorenzo would be personally knighted by Hernan Cortes.

@TylerGreenfieId It’s hard to say. Part of the problem is that the story appears to be a medieval invention and not a historical event. I know that some versions mention a breathing tube to supply air.
