I am inclined to believe these images might have started out as early concepts Barlowe had created for the Expedition & Darwin IV, but would later abandon for unknown reasons. It might be that he planned to re-use them for a future project exploring the new planet of "Belon"
Darwin IV was supposed to have no liquid oceans on the planet's due to climate change so this marine creature either was from the planet's prehistoric past, a subterranean ocean, or not from Darwin IV at all.
The second image is titled "Marine Xenomorph." and depicts an underwater scene of a large aquatic alien creature accompanied by several smaller ones.
Dang, I hate the fact that we might have gotten an "Expedition II" from Wayne Barlowe if things were slightly different. On his website, he teased two paintings that were unused in his first book exploring Darwin IV (later adapted into Discovery Channel's Alien Planet) [a thread]
@alexriesart At least Darwin IV had interesting stuff living in the gravel expanses. Barlowe also made the excuse that the planet had lost most of its liquid surface water resulting in extensive desertification. But I still see your point
Special shout out and thanks to @BStokkermans for providing an amazing illustration for this video! Give this dude a follow ;) He makes some awesome work!
I saw a meme like this once somewhere on the internet and I had to recreate it for my next video:
I'm still making my Trojan War doodles for my eventual anime series. I added Diomedes and Old Nestor two very different kings.
