What are some of your favorite fringe hypotheses in paleontology? One of mine is the idea that Carboniferous coal was formed from floating forests and not swamps.
@TM9380 One of the funniest, which I still don't know the origin of, is giant Pachycephalosaurus. It was always said to be specifically 26 feet long.
@Diplotomodon Theropods had to hold an Amargasaurus like this to properly play it.
@Goldrushcomic We almost got one after the first movie, but it was sadly cancelled (concept art by Bill Stout).
There's a great painting of the 1953 incident by Paul Calle. This individual shark was known as the "Forchu Rammer". https://t.co/vLNjjFtegO
The Cretoxyrhina in this episode looks awfully familar... https://t.co/HK7GL1pXkW
What is the correct name for the platypterygiine ichthyosaur "Ichthyosaurus" campylodon? It's not Pervushovisaurus campylodon like has been claimed in recent literature, but instead Myopterygius campylodon. Read about it in my new blog post.
@friel This is a phenomenon in its own right, as it evolved in swordfishes/sailfishes, leptonectid ichthyosaurs like Eurhinosaurus, Protosphyraena (left), and thalattosaurs like Xinpusaurus (right).
