The Super Famicom hit the shelves 30 years ago today in Japan. Some of its games had their dedicated page on Nintendo's website from 20 years ago - its last official game was released a few weeks after the machine's 10th anniversary.

The logo was designed by Hiroshi Hirata, mangaka and famous calligrapher who also designed the katakana version of the Akira logo.

Yuki Otake designed some of the characters, created the character illustrations, in-game portraits, some artworks for magazines, the manual, the back cover and the OST.

Metal Black producer and art director Takatsuna Senba mentions on his blog that the game is based on Darius 3, a cancelled game he started developing right after Darius II's release in 1989. He adds that Darius 3 and Darius Gaiden are 2 different projects.

Eri Nakamura animated the Punisher and the female ninja Mizuki from Capcom's arcade game The punisher. The latter is based on a character who made an appearance in an issue of the comic book she had at home.
