4/ Turns out, it was a false alarm. Another version of the painting belonged to Menten. In fact, the more I looked for this painting, the more additional variants attributed to Brouwer I found. Now we know it’s 1 of at least 6 out there, probably the prime version.

Boston native Edward Perry Warren bought this painting and a classical relief depicting the death of Priam from the Panciatichi and sold them to the MFA. But where did the painting come from? The armorial shield at the bottom may provide a clue. 3/
