1/4 The recent gift to the @mfaboston of works of art from the Rothschild family, plundered during the Nazi era and returned, allows us to compare the provenance of paintings like this Maes with Rothschild paintings already in the collection, like this Fyt / Quellinus still life.
Wonderful Easter postcards by Mela Koehler (all from the MFA's collection).
And now Twitter is telling me it's #worldartday. Everyone, please go art at something.
#5: Last story, part 1: When we received this Hans Bol painting 2 years ago from Eiijk and Rose Marie van Otterloo, its published prov. only went back to 1980. Marks on the back led me to the Alphonse de Rothschild collection. Plundered by Nazis, it was catalogued as "Hans Roll."
