🟨 💐 This marvellous #GoldBox was made in 1759-60 by the master goldsmith Jean Ducrollay.

Measuring only 6.7cm wide, it features a signature on the enamel of the lid by the accomplished enamellist, Hamelin, an exceedingly rare detail found in very few works by the artist.

This precise and luminous painting shows a view across the river Maas touched by atmospheric evening light.

#AelbertCuyp, who died #OnThisDay 1691, painted this piece in the early 1650s and is widely considered one of the finest landscape painters of the #SeventeenthCentury.

The Italian painter #FrancescoGuardi was well known for his #capricci, fantastical paintings which combined his scintillating brushwork with some recognisable elements and imaginative additions.

This fanciful scene depicts the Doge’s Palace in Venice, and dates to the 1770s.

Funds for the conservation of The Swing were generously provided to The Wallace Collection by the Bank of America Art Conservation Project.

This majestic seascape is by the Dutch painter, #AelbertCuyp, who was born #onthisday 1620.

In this work, Cuyp depicts the Maas, the busy inland waterway that connected his native Dordrect (visible on the right) to Rotterdam.

For #NationalPoetryDay today, we wanted to share this extraordinary piece by French painter #FrançoisLemoyne.

Dated 1723, the work depicts #PerseusAndAndromeda, and is directly inspired by the mythology and stories of the Roman poet, Ovid.
