@23Syncope I think some of the reason the original anime designs had so much appeal is because they looked so much like the promotional artwork from Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow by Ken Sugomori. Also interesting to note that it appears that Pikachu's appearance remains unchanged.

Here's the robot masters from the original 1987 @MegaMan (And the two newcomers from the 2006 Powered Up remake) in the Mega Man 7 style. Mega Man had some really interesting designs for the first title in the series, I think my favourite is Fire Man. #MegaMan #pixelart #16bit
